where it all began

Hi! I’m Genesis (she/her), a licensed mental health counselor associate in the state of Washington, and I am grateful you’ve found your way to this space. I’ve been married to my husband since 2001, and together we’re raising our four children (almost all of whom are adults now!). My family is the heart of my world, providing me with my greatest joys, challenges, and support. In 2017, I returned to school to finish my bachelor’s degree in psychology at Liberty University, which opened the door for me to work as a case manager in a behavioral and mental health clinic. It is through my work there that I made the decision to return to school again to attain my master’s degree in counseling psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, which I completed in 2024. Before returning to school, I spent my children’s younger years with them at home while also dedicating my time to a small educational co-op, teaching classes for kids from kindergarten through high school. In my free time, I explored my love for photography, capturing weddings, family, and senior portraits. I also offered support to spouses of law enforcement officers, gaining deep insight into the unique challenges faced by first responders and their loved ones.

My personal journey of healing has been greatly affected by the lingering impact of high-control environments; I am well acquainted with the grief, complexity, and freedom encountered on the way to reclaim oneself. These life experiences have cultivated a deep curiosity in me about others, their story, and what has shaped them into who they are today. My own experience with therapy has been transformative, which is why I believe so strongly in its power to create lasting change. I’ve learned, through both the beautiful and the painful moments, that while life may be tough, it also contains goodness, healing, and joy. My spiritual journey has been deeply influenced by the Christian tradition, but I am not a religious or Christian therapist. In our work together, I aim to foster a space where your beliefs—whether spiritual, secular, or anything in between—are met with compassion and respect, free from judgment. My goal is to create an environment where you can bring your whole self with confidence that your unique experiences will be honored. As a White, straight, able-bodied, cis woman, I’m aware of the privilege I carry, and I take seriously the responsibility to examine my own biases and how I’ve been shaped by systems of oppression (patriarchy, white supremacy, Christian nationalism, hetero/gender-sexism, etc.). This is ongoing work for me, work that I approach with humility, curiosity, and a genuine desire to grow. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and committed to creating an environment where people of all races, genders, sizes, abilities, and sexualities feel fully seen, heard, and respected. I know this journey is continuous, and I’m deeply invested in learning, reflecting, and doing better, both personally and professionally.

Outside of therapy, you’ll likely find me enjoying the local food scene with my husband, laughing with my sisters, spending time with friends, on a walk with my dog, and cracking up (or cringing!) at the memes my kids send me.

Many of my clients come to therapy expressing that something in life feels “off” and they aren’t quite able to pinpoint exactly what. Sometimes they tell me they are feeling sad even though life is pretty good or that they have been angry towards a loved one even though they feel as if they have no reason to be. Some clients have experienced a painful childhood and family life and want to change unhealthy patterns. Others were raised in religious environments and are questioning if the faith they were raised with still aligns with their values, and many are wondering, “How did I get to be who I am?” While each client's motivation for starting therapy is unique, one common factor they each bring is an abiding curiosity to know and understand themselves. Each client comes with a desire to make sense of what they are experiencing, to learn to trust themselves to respond (rather than react) to what is going on around them, and feel empowered to make changes to become the most whole, healed, and authentic version of themselves.

I’m passionate about guiding you through life’s challenges and helping you to uncover your own path to healing in a compassionate and empathetic way. My therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic, attachment, and narrative therapies, as well as incorporating lifespan integration and internal family systems techniques. Together, we’ll create a safe, nurturing space where we can explore how your past experiences—particularly your early relationships and formative moments—have shaped the way you see yourself and the world around you. My hope is not just for you to experience relief from symptoms, but to dig into their underlying causes, to understand the deeper reasons behind your feelings, and to experience empowerment to break free from limiting beliefs.
